Why BBC America’s new mystery drama by Glen Morgan promises to raise the hairs on the back of your neck
First of all, there’s the theme: that inside every one of us lies another soul, just waiting for the right moment to take over our body. There’s the fact that one of the main characters is a nine-year-old girl whose alter ego is an old man, a vicious killer it seems… and then there’s the music.
Scored by Bear McCreary (‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. ‘Walking Dead’, ‘Outlander’…) a recently released video reveals how the music for ‘Intruders‘ was created entirely from sound samples taken during the destruction of several pianos… and it’s chilling stuff.
Adapted by Glen Morgan (‘X-Files’) from the 2007 novel by Michael Marshall Smith, ‘Intruders’ promises to be ‘water-cooler television’ – I predict that people will gather on Monday mornings to ask each other ‘What do you think is going on?’ – because no-one is what they seem, and we are promised that we will only uncover what is going on as the lead character, ex LAPD Cop turned writer Jack Whelan (John Simm) finds out. His wife Amy (Mira Sorvino) starts behaving oddly – before disappearing. Distraught, Jack goes looking for her, and receives disturbing news from old school friend Gary Fischer. Jack’s world is about to be turned upside down…
Viewers in the US can see episode one on 23rd August 10/9C. Viewers in the UK can see it on BBC2 starting at 9pm on Monday, 27th October 2014.
